Beaujolais Blanc Chardonnay Jean-Paul Brun

Happy Friday and welcome to the Weekend Wine Down! A new, weekly series highlighting one of the wines available in the shop. Every week one of our staff members will bring home a bottle of wine, taste a glass, and research the winery, grape, region, etc. On Fridays, our team gathers to taste and exchange our new knowledge. We are excited to begin sharing that information with all of you! We invite you to stop in and sample your own bottle and let us know your opinions on the wines we're featuring.

We’re pleased to start the series with a pick from Ellie! She chose to learn more about this lovely Beaujolais Blanc Chardonnay, made by winemaker Jean-Paul Brun in Terres Dorées, or Region of Golden Stones, a region of Beaujolais known for its limestone soils. This 2022 vintage is a delightful example of an unoaked, non-malo Chardonnay with classic flavors of green apple, pear, and slight citrus and melon notes. Best served with a light chill, once it opens up a bit you will pick up more stonefruit flavors. And coming in at $26 this bottle is a great value for a Burgundian Chardonnay.

This enchanting 2022 Beaujolais Blanc unsurprisingly drinks extremely well. The consensus out of Burgundy is that due to the hot, dry weather during the growing season, this is one of the best vintages of the past two decades. Beaujolais is the southernmost region of Burgundy and while it is technically considered part of Burgundy, Beaujolais is a distinct area with unique history, terroir, and winemaking styles. However, it seems 2022 stands as a fantastic vintage in the Beaujolais region as well as the rest of Burgundy.

Light color, fuller bodied, and medium acidity, this Chardonnay pairs well with salty food. You’ll find it has a nice minerality and mild salinity. You may find a slight sensation of sweetness in this wine, this is due to the ripeness of the grapes and the wine’s acidity. Overall Jean-Paul Brun’s 2022 Beaujolais Blanc Chardonnay has a nice balance and complexity earning it a spot in our regular rotation. Stop in and try it for yourself and let us know what you think!
