Mary Taylor Bordeaux Blanc

Mary Taylor’s Bordeaux Blanc is a nice introduction to white Bordeaux wine. Bordeaux is generally known for its reds; over 86% of wines that come out of Bordeaux are red and are made mainly from three grapes, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. Bordeaux Blancs are largely blends of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, Mary Taylor’s comes in at 95% Sauvignon Blanc and 5% Sémillon.

Sourced from Jean Marc Barthez, who presides over a small co-op winery in Bordeaux’s Entre-Deux-Mers region (translates to “Between Two Tides”) named for its location between two tidal rivers, Garonne and Dordgne. The soil there is sand, clay, and gravel which influences the mineral-driven flavor of this wine. Fermenting without oak preserves the classic expression of the Sauvignon Blanc. You can expect green apple on the nose, with notes of pear and melon, and a medium body with a long finish. Best served chilled, you’ll get a pale, almost clear glass of wine that is dry and bold with a touch of salinity.

Mary Taylor’s Bordeaux Blanc is a great value at $17. And is just a small window into the beautiful world of Bordeaux Blancs. Stop in and give this one a try or one of the other Bordeaux Blancs we have available. Grab a few bottles and experience the variety of flavors the region has to offer.
